Mary Sue Dean, age 92, of Richlands, VA passed away Saturday, August 8, 2026, at her home following a brief illness.
Born in Ashland, WV. She was the daughter of the late Robert Stephen Dean and Mary (Hazel) Hall Dean. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents James M. & Albert Liddle Dean; maternal grandparents Walter & Mary Sue Ratliff Hall and adopted son Gary Allen Lakey.
Ms. Dean was a graduate of Radford University. She retired from Richlands High School in 1997 after 41 years of teaching with the last 29 years at Richlands High School.
Ms. Dean was dearly loved by all her former students and co-workers. She was a member of the Cedar Bluff United Methodist Church and wanted in lieu of flowers donations be made in her memory to “In his Hand Baby Mission”, C/O Cedar Bluff United Methodist Church P.O. Box 209 Cedar Bluff, VA 24609.
Ms. Dean is survived by several cousins, many friends, former students and co-workers.
Graveside services for Ms. Mary Sue Dean were conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the Grandview Memory Gardens Cemetery Mausoleum at Bluefield, VA with Pastor Annette Warren officiating. Those who attended the graveside service met at the cemetery mausoleum at 2:00 P.M. Thursday.
