Residents across Buchanan County who have been thinking about improving their health or losing weight have an opportunity to receive professional guidance while taking part in a research study through UVA Health.
The Buchanan County Chamber of Commerce is helping spread the word about the TrackWell Research Study, a 17-week weight-loss program offered by UVA Health’s Department of Public Health Sciences. The Chamber shared the information on behalf of Chamber member Buchanan General Hospital to make residents aware of the opportunity.
The study is designed to provide participants with personalized support as they work toward healthier lifestyles. Throughout the 17-week program, participants will track their daily food intake, exercise and weight while receiving weekly feedback from a health professional to help keep them motivated and on track.
Adults ages 18 and older who have overweight or obesity may qualify to participate if they are able to walk for exercise and own a compatible Apple or Android smartphone with a cellular data plan.
Participants accepted into the study will receive several benefits at no cost, including a Fitbit activity tracker, a digital scale and access to a virtual 60-minute “Weight Loss 101” class. Those who complete the study’s data collection will also receive a $40 gift card.
