The Buchanan County Humane Society is inviting local pet owners to take advantage of its upcoming Pet Food Pantry, an effort aimed at helping families keep their dogs and cats fed during difficult times.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on July 18, or while supplies last, at 1132 Booth Branch Road, behind the former Grundy High School.
The pantry is open exclusively to Buchanan County residents, who are asked to bring a driver’s license or utility bill as proof of residency.
To ensure supplies reach as many families as possible, the humane society will provide one donation of dog food and one donation of cat food per vehicle.
Organizers said the pantry is designed to ease the financial burden many pet owners face while helping keep beloved animals in their homes. By providing food assistance, the organization hopes to reduce the number of pets surrendered to shelters because of temporary financial hardships.
The Buchanan County Humane Society also noted that donations to help cover fuel costs are appreciated, allowing volunteers to continue picking up and distributing food to those in need.
Residents planning to attend are encouraged to arrive early, as food will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis until supplies are exhausted.
The Pet Food Pantry is part of the humane society’s ongoing mission of helping pets, supporting families and strengthening the community.
