GRUNDY — Summer may mean a break from school, but for many young basketball players in Buchanan County, it’s also a chance to improve their game before the next season tips off.
The Buchanan County YMCA is inviting boys and girls entering second through eighth grades to lace up their sneakers for its annual Co-Ed Youth Summer Basketball Camp, set for July 29-31.
The three-day camp, led by local coach Jory Rife, is designed to give young athletes a fun, positive environment where they can develop their basketball skills, make new friends and build confidence both on and off the court.
Each day begins with a devotional before campers jump into instruction covering every aspect of the game, including ball handling, shooting, defensive pressure, layups, agility and game situations. Throughout the camp, participants will have opportunities to put what they’ve learned into action during daily competitions and games.
Whether a child is just beginning to learn the game or looking to prepare for the upcoming school basketball season, the camp offers instruction geared toward players of all skill levels.
The camp will run daily from 10 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the Buchanan County YMCA.
In addition to basketball instruction, every camper will receive a camp T-shirt, a pool pass and a snow cone pass. Awards will be presented each day, and one participant will be recognized as Camper of the Week, earning a complimentary one-year YMCA membership.
Registration is now underway. The cost is $75 for YMCA members, with each additional sibling costing $60. The fee for non-members is $95, with additional siblings $80 each.
Parents interested in registering their child can call the Buchanan County YMCA at (276) 935-8871.
