The VA250 Mobile Museum Experience brings America’s founding story to life through interactive exhibits and hands-on displays. The traveling museum will stop at Food City in Vansant on July 23, where residents can tour the exhibit free of charge from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. as part of the celebration leading up to America’s 250th anniversary.
Buchanan County residents will soon have a chance to step back in time and experience the story of America’s founding without leaving home.
The VA250 Mobile Museum Experience will stop at Food City in Vansant on Wednesday, July 23, offering visitors a unique opportunity to explore Virginia’s important role in the American Revolution. The museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Food City located at 18765 Riverside Drive, and admission is free.
The traveling exhibit is part of a partnership between Food City and the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission as communities across the Commonwealth prepare to celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday.
Inside the mobile museum, visitors will find interactive displays and exhibits that tell the story of how Virginia helped shape the birth of the United States. From Patrick Henry’s famous call for liberty to George Washington’s victory at the Siege of Yorktown, the exhibit also shines a light on the ordinary Virginians whose courage and sacrifices helped secure the nation’s independence.
Organizers said the museum was specifically designed to feature stories and exhibits that highlight Southwest Virginia’s rich heritage, allowing residents to see how this region played a role in the nation’s history.
The Vansant stop is one of several scheduled appearances across Southwest Virginia. The tour previously visited Independence and Lebanon before making its way to Buchanan County.
After leaving Vansant, the VA250 Mobile Museum will continue its regional tour with stops at WCYB in Bristol on Aug. 13, Food City in Wise on Aug. 27, Food City in Weber City on Sept. 16, Food City in Marion on Oct. 1 and Food City in Bristol on Dec. 19.
