Students staying after school in Buchanan County can receive supper and a snack through a meal program offered at five participating schools.

Buchanan County Public Schools announced Sept. 25 that it is sponsoring the Afterschool Meals Program, providing a third meal and a snack to all students attending afterschool programs at those locations.

The program gives participating students another opportunity to eat during the school day, with serving times scheduled around the start of afterschool activities.

At Southern Gap High School, supper and a snack will be served Monday through Thursday from 2:45 p.m. to 3 p.m.

At Hurley Elementary Middle School, meals and snacks will be available Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Council Elementary Middle School, Riverview Elementary Middle School and Twin Valley Elementary Middle School will serve supper and a snack Monday through Thursday from 3 p.m. to 3:15 p.m.

The announcement identifies students attending the participating schools’ afterschool programs as those eligible to receive the meals and snacks.

Families seeking more information about the program can contact Rhonda Musick at [email protected] or 276-935-4551, ext. 243.

Additional information is available through the Virginia Department of Education’s Office of School and Community Nutrition Programs at 804-418-4735.

Buchanan County Public Schools is an equal opportunity provider.
