Southern Gap High School recently hosted its first-ever College Fair for students in the 11th and 12th grades, giving students the opportunity to explore colleges, career options, and their plans for life after high school.
The College Fair was a huge success, with around 40 colleges and universities attending. Students were able to walk around and talk with representatives from different schools to learn more about what each college had to offer.
Some of the schools represented included Virginia Tech, University of Louisville, Marshall University, Southwest Virginia Community College, Bluefield University, Emory & Henry University, Radford University, and Roanoke College.
College representatives were very friendly and willing to answer students’ questions. They provided information about admissions, scholarships, majors, graduate programs, campus life, and career opportunities. Students could ask questions about anything they were curious about and take home brochures, information packets, and other fun materials.
For many students, the fair was a great way to discover schools and career paths they may not have previously considered. It also gave students a better idea of what to expect when applying to college and what opportunities are available after graduation.
The College Fair was not just about picking a college. It was about helping students think about their futures and showing them that there are many different paths they can take to reach their goals.
Having nearly 40 colleges represented at SGHS gave students the chance to explore their options without having to travel far from home. The event also helped create excitement about college and the careers that can follow a college education.
The success of the first College Fair shows just how many opportunities are available to SGHS students. It was an exciting first step in helping students prepare for their futures, and hopefully it will become an annual tradition at Southern Gap High School.
