Southern Gap continued its inaugural golf season with an eighth-place finish against a 10-team field at Raven Rock Golf Course in Jenkins, Kentucky.
The Eagles posted a four-player score of 347, finishing 10 strokes ahead of Richlands and 66 strokes behind team winner Abingdon.
Abingdon took the team championship with a 279. Marion placed second with a 304, edging John Battle by one stroke. Battle finished third at 305, while Chilhowie placed fourth with a 309.
Holston rounded out the top five with a 315. Central placed sixth at 321, followed by Union at 328, Southern Gap at 347, Richlands at 357 and Ridgeview at 413.
Two golfers shared the lowest individual round. Marion’s Campbell Salyers and John S. Battle’s Christina Zochowski each shot a 66.
Abingdon’s Natalie Lasley finished one stroke back with a 67, while teammate Davis Cook carded a 68. Abingdon’s Ross Gibson and Chilhowie’s Max Barnes each shot a 71.
Lukas McGraw of Abingdon finished with a 73, and Central’s Kaden Adkins shot a 74. Central’s Colton Astbury and Holston’s Brinton Sweet completed the top 10 with rounds of 75.
Ethan Deel turned in Southern Gap’s lowest round, shooting a 77. His score placed him just two strokes outside the top 10.
Braden Hopkins followed with an 86, and Ben Mayhew added an 89. Mason Boyd shot a 95 to complete Southern Gap’s four-player team score.
Jaxon Hardin also represented the Eagles and carded a 104. In high school golf, each team’s four lowest individual rounds are combined to determine its score.
