It was a night filled with Eagle pride, school spirit and community support as Southern Gap High School hosted its Meet the Eagles event on Wednesday, Aug. 19. The evening gave the Southern Gap community an opportunity to meet the student-athletes who will represent the Eagles this school year. Athletes participating in volleyball, golf, cross-country, competitive cheer, sideline cheer and football were introduced to the crowd.

The event was filled with excitement as students, families and community members enjoyed music from a DJ, inflatables, local vendors and food. Student Ryder Ward also volunteered his time to help announce the teams, adding to the energy and excitement of the evening. “It was so exciting to see everyone come together and support our students,” said Bill Crigger during a radio interview on WNBV. You could feel the Eagle pride throughout the entire evening. This is more than just a school event—it’s the beginning of something special for our entire community.” The success of Meet the Eagles was made possible through the tremendous support of local businesses, organizations and community partners. Southern Gap High School extends a heartfelt thank-you to Chillerz, Pig-N-Out, Pearl & Pine Boutique, Steel Magnolias, Darlene’s Kitchen, Dave’s Dawgs, Sunrise Building Company, West River Conveyors, Sweet B’s Lemonade Stand, Donuts & More, TruPoint Bank, JGreat Entertainment, Golden Oldies, Soirée, Kona Ice, Wren’s, WNBV – The Eagle, Buchanan County Chamber of Commerce, BCYI, CV Customs, Transitions Medical Spa, Tom’s Coffee, Ridgeline Healthcare, New Peoples Bank, M&M Boutique, Appalachian Glow & Grow, Southwest Virginia Community College and Allie Daniels Permanent Jewelry. The event also highlighted the strong support surrounding Southern Gap’s students and student-athletes. Coaches, staff members, families and community members all played an important role in creating an atmosphere of excitement as the Eagles prepare for the 2026–27 school year. As the Eagles look ahead, the excitement will continue with Friday Night Tailgates and homecoming festivities planned for October. Meet the Eagles was more than an introduction to Southern Gap’s student-athletes. It was a celebration of a new school, a new chapter and a community coming together behind its Eagles. It was a great day to be an Eagle.
