The local artist pictured in the August 26, 1976 edition of the Mountaineer is John A. Whited, with a painting depicting a continuous mining machine at work. Whited painted it for Bob-by Harold Ratliff, a local mine owner. Whited, a resident of the Harman area, has extensive experience in the art world and has done other work for residents in the area. Whited worked in the mines before pursuing a career in Art. Many of Whited’s works are on display throughout the county in various offices and places of business. Whited is employed by the Mountaineer Publishing Company.
