Residents who have delayed visiting a doctor, dentist or eye care provider because of cost will have an opportunity to receive free care when Remote Area Medical comes to Lick Creek later this month.

The nonprofit organization will hold a two-day pop-up clinic Saturday, Aug. 29, and Sunday, Aug. 30, at East Ridge High School, located at 19471 Lick Mountain Road.

Free dental, vision, general medical and denture services will be available. The clinic is open to everyone, regardless of where they live or their financial circumstances. Patients do not need insurance, identification or proof of income to receive care.

Licensed medical professionals and trained volunteers will provide services. The clinic will accept patients on a first-come, first-served basis until it reaches its daily capacity.

The parking lot will open no later than 11:59 p.m. the night before each clinic day, and the clinic doors will open at 6 a.m. Staff will distribute numbers as patients enter the parking lot, and everyone seeking care must be present to receive a number. Patients who leave after receiving a number will lose their place in line.

Appointments will not be scheduled in advance. Remote Area Medical encourages patients to arrive early because the number of people RAM can treat depends on available volunteers, time and services.

Dental services may include cleanings, fillings and extractions. Vision services may include eye exams and on-site prescription glasses. Patients should be aware that RAM cannot provide both dental extractions and dentures to the same person during one event.

Remote Area Medical organizes volunteer-powered clinics to help individuals and families who may otherwise have difficulty accessing professional health care. Additional patient information is available through Remote Area Medical.

Medical professionals, students and community members interested in helping with the clinic may register through RAM’s volunteer website.
