Engines will roar, mud will fly and competitors will put their off-road skills to the test when the Southern Gap Dirt Drags return for three days of action this week.
The competition will be held Thursday, Aug. 20, through Saturday, Aug. 22, as part of the Southern Gap Trails & Tunes Festival. The schedule includes drag racing, a mud bog, hill climbing and several lighthearted competitions designed to entertain racers and spectators alike.
The action will begin Thursday when the gates open at 5 p.m. Events will start at 7 p.m. with a wheelie competition and panty race.
Friday’s schedule will offer a full afternoon of competition. Gates will open at 11 a.m., with events beginning at 12:30 p.m.
Friday’s lineup includes a tire toss, Dizzy Daze, Blindfold Breakout, Crazy 8s barrel racing and tug of war. The mixture of speed, skill and unusual challenges will give competitors several ways to showcase their abilities while keeping the crowd entertained.
The largest slate of racing is scheduled for Saturday. Gates will open at 10 a.m., and competition will begin at 11:30 a.m.
Saturday’s events will include a donut competition, mud bog, hill climb and drag racing. An awards ceremony will follow the conclusion of competition.
Admission wristbands are now available. A three-day wristband costs $25 and provides admission to all scheduled events, while single-day admission is $20.
Wristbands may be purchased in advance at Extreme Motorsports or at the gate.
The Southern Gap Dirt Drags have become an opportunity for off-road competitors and fans to gather for a weekend filled with friendly competition, challenging terrain and plenty of horsepower.
Whether they come to compete, support a favorite driver or simply watch the mud fly, spectators will have three days of activities to enjoy during this year’s Southern Gap Trails & Tunes Festival.
