The Grundy Police Department responded to 211 calls for service during July, Police Chief Seth McGlothlin told the Grundy Town Council during its Aug. 11 meeting at the Town Offices.

The department’s officers handled a range of calls during the month, including 35 incidents and investigations. Officers made 12 criminal arrests and conducted 69 traffic stops.

Police issued 37 uniform summonses or citations and served 16 criminal papers. Of the department’s total calls for service, 39 were outside the town limits.

No reportable motor vehicle accidents were recorded during July, according to the department’s monthly report. Officers also did not serve any civil papers during the month.

McGlothlin also updated council members on several upcoming training opportunities that will help officers continue building their skills and serving the community.

McGlothlin and Accreditation Manager Dusty Childress are scheduled to attend training on Virginia’s Community Policing Act on Aug. 18 at Wytheville Community College. The two will return to the college Aug. 19 for incident-based reporting training.

Sgt. Chapman is scheduled to attend Speed Measurement Instructor School from Aug. 24-27 at the police academy.

Officer Deel will attend Crisis Intervention Team training from Aug. 31 through Sept. 4 at the academy. The training helps law enforcement officers respond safely and effectively when they encounter people experiencing mental health or behavioral crises.
