GARRETT EDWARD HARRIS, age 73, of the Stinson Ridge section of Rowe, Virginia passed away Wednesday (August 12, 2026) at his home. Born February 16, 1953 in Buchanan County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Dexter Edward and Elsie Mae McGlothlin Harris. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a 1971 graduate of Council High School. He was a disabled coal miner and had formerly been employed by Island Creek Coal Company. A member of the UMWA, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Sue Lester Harris.
Survivors include three siblings, Yuvonne Tiller and husband, James, Lucy Jackson and husband, Paul, and Alvin Harris; special friend, Steve Sauls; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were 7:00 PM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. James Tiller and Rev. Jeff Ball officiating. Graveside services were conducted at 11:00 AM Sunday at the Harris Cemetery on Council Mountain Road. Those who attended assembled at the cemetery.
UMWA honors will be conducted by Sub 28 Chaplain Corps.
Pallbearers were Rodney Harris, Randy Harris, Steve Sauls, Christopher Jackson, Craig Tiller, Jeffery Hess.
The family received friends after 6:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
