Students and parents will have several opportunities to reconnect with teachers, classmates and school staff before the new academic year begins, as Buchanan County schools continue to host their annual Back-to-School Bashes.
The events are designed to welcome students back, provide important school information and help families prepare for the start of the 2026-27 school year.
Twin Valley Elementary/Middle School was among the first schools to kick off the festivities, hosting its Back-to-School Bash on Aug. 1 at the Whitewood Fire Department. The event gave students and families an opportunity to celebrate the upcoming school year while connecting with school personnel.
Riverview Elementary/Middle School also recently welcomed students and parents during its Back-to-School Bash on July 30 at the school.
Three schools still have events on the calendar.
Council Elementary/Middle School will host its Back-to-School Bash from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the school.
Tommy P. Justus Elementary/Middle School, formerly known as Hurley Elementary/Middle School, will hold its Back-to-School Bash from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the school.
Southern Gap High School, which will open its doors for its inaugural school year this fall, will host its first-ever Back-to-School Bash from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at the new campus.
In addition to giving students a chance to become familiar with their schools before classes begin, the events allow parents to meet teachers and staff, ask questions and receive information to help make the transition into the new school year as smooth as possible.
Buchanan County Public Schools will begin the 2026-27 academic year on Friday, Aug. 21.
