With the first day of school quickly approaching, Buchanan County families are making last-minute preparations for the start of the 2026-27 academic year, and one of the biggest items on every parent’s checklist is school supplies.
Buchanan County Public Schools has released school supply lists for each elementary and middle school, as well as a general supply list for students attending the new Southern Gap High School.
School officials encourage families to purchase supplies before classes begin, although teachers may request additional classroom-specific items after the school year gets underway.
One important reminder applies throughout the school division: Clear backpacks are not required for students during the school day. They are only required when attending school sporting events.
