Young athletes looking to improve their cheerleading and tumbling skills will have the opportunity to learn from one of the region’s most experienced coaches when the Buchanan County YMCA hosts a one-day Cheerleading and Tumbling Camp on Saturday, Aug. 1.

The camp will be led by Elle Hackney, a coach with GymTyme Allstars who brings nearly two decades of experience in tumbling and cheerleading to the program.

The camp will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Buchanan County YMCA, located at 1059 Golden Wave Drive in Grundy. A lunch break will be included during the day.

Hackney has 17 years of tumbling experience, 10 years of cheerleading experience and seven years of coaching experience. Throughout the camp, participants will receive instruction in tumbling fundamentals, drills, jumps, stunts, dance routines and other cheerleading techniques designed to help athletes improve their skills while building confidence.

The camp is open to athletes looking to develop their abilities, whether they are new to cheerleading or preparing for school and competitive seasons.

In addition to on-the-mat instruction, each participant will receive a pool pass and a snow cone pass, both valid during the 2026 pool season.

Registration costs $50 for Buchanan County YMCA members and $60 for nonmembers.

Organizers say space is limited and encourage families to register early to secure a spot.

The camp is designed to provide athletes with quality instruction in a fun, encouraging environment while giving participants an opportunity to learn from an experienced coach with years of competitive and instructional experience.

For young cheerleaders hoping to sharpen their skills before the fall season, the camp offers a full day of hands-on training with one of the sport’s accomplished coaches.
