U.S. Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., will visit Buchanan County on Wednesday, July 1, to celebrate recent federal funding secured for local projects aimed at flood recovery, public safety and infrastructure improvements.
The event is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. at the Southern Gap Transportation and Logistics Center, located at 1102 Ovenbird Road in Grundy, and is open to the public and members of the media.
During the visit, Warner will join local community leaders to present ceremonial “big checks” recognizing federal funding awarded to two Buchanan County projects.
One grant will support the Appalachian Service Project’s efforts to replace homes damaged by flooding, helping families continue to recover from recent natural disasters. A second award will provide funding for the Town of Grundy to purchase a new fire truck, strengthening emergency response capabilities for the community.
Warner is also expected to discuss his continued efforts in the U.S. Senate to secure federal resources for Southwest Virginia communities recovering from flood damage while investing in local public safety and critical infrastructure.
The Buchanan County stop is part of a four-day tour across Central, Southside and Southwest Virginia. During the trip, Warner will participate in economic development, health care, agriculture and manufacturing events, highlighting federal investments and meeting with local leaders throughout the Commonwealth.
Following his stop in Grundy, Warner will travel to Clintwood for a tour of Dickenson Community Hospital and discussions focused on protecting rural health care and Medicaid funding.
