FRANK KENNITH MATNEY, 87, of Vansant, VA, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2026, at his daughter’s home in Bluefield, WV. Born in Vansant, VA, he was the son of the late Alva Holland and Mary Ocie (Scott) Matney. He was a longtime resident of Buchanan County and was a member of Vansant Presbyterian Church. Frank graduated from Grundy High School in 1957 and later served in the United States Army. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He retired in 1997 from Harman Mining Company where he was a heavy equipment operator.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou (Edwards) Matney (December 13, 2003); Son-in-Law: Seth Peters; Sister: Ellen “Sis” Arrington; Brothers: Sonny Matney, Ellis Matney, Tom Matney and Carl “Mook” Matney.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Kennith (Sallie) Matney of Christiansburg, VA; his daughter, Regina Peters of Bluewell, WV; Brother: Paul (Ilene) Matney of Haysi, VA; Grandsons: Justin Dunford, Jordan Peters, Kennith Ryan (Rebecca) Matney, Christopher Matney and Matthew Peters; Great-Grandson: Weston Kennith Matney.
Also, survived by several nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to his cousin Mary Ruth Spencer who called him daily and was a great comfort to him.
Visitation was held at the Vansant Presbyterian Church Wednesday from 11:30 A.M. -12:00 P.M.
Funeral Services for FRANK KENNITH MATNEY were conducted Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at 12:00 P.M. at the Vansant Presbyterian Church with Pastor David Western officiating, burial followed in Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill, VA.
Full Military Rites were conducted at the church by members of Childs-Gentry Post No. 7360 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and John Ratliff Post No. 164 of the American Legion.
Active Pallbearers were Justin Dunford, Jordan Peters, Ryan Matney, Christopher Matney and Matthew Peters.
Honorary Pallbearers were Paul Matney, Michael Matney, Weston Matney, David Cook, Junior Sexton and Dean Sexton.
