The Levisa River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is asking the public for help locating the oldest American flag in the region.
In honor of the 150th anniversary of Buchanan County and the nation’s upcoming semiquincentennial, or 250th anniversary, the Levisa River DAR invites the public to submit a photo of themselves with their oldest American flag, along with the story behind it.
“If you have an old flag, tell us its story,” said Ola Clevinger, chairman of the flag committee for the Levisa River DAR. “Tell us how you came into possession of it and what it means to you or your family. Also, please send a picture of the flag and identify everyone shown.”
Clevinger said the community may be home to a remarkable piece of history and that the group needs help finding it. The flag may be a personal possession or housed in a town or county building. The organization would like to know the flag’s purpose, history, and what it means to those connected to it.
