Buchanan County residents will have an opportunity this Thursday to step back in time and explore the story of America’s founding when the VA250 Mobile Museum Experience rolls into Vansant.
The traveling museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 23, at the Food City located at 18765 Riverside Drive. Admission is free.
The exhibit is part of a partnership between Food City and the Virginia American Revolution 250 Commission as communities across the commonwealth continue preparations for the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration.
Visitors can explore interactive exhibits highlighting Virginia’s pivotal role in the American Revolution. Displays feature well-known moments in history, including Patrick Henry’s famous call for liberty and George Washington’s victory at the Siege of Yorktown, while also recognizing the contributions and sacrifices of ordinary Virginians who helped secure the nation’s independence.
Organizers said the mobile museum was designed to showcase stories from across the commonwealth, including Southwest Virginia, giving residents a chance to learn more about the region’s place in America’s founding.
The Vansant visit is one of several stops on the museum’s Southwest Virginia tour. Previous stops included Independence and Lebanon.
Following its Buchanan County appearance, the VA250 Mobile Museum Experience is scheduled to visit WCYB in Bristol on Aug. 13, Food City in Wise on Aug. 27, Food City in Weber City on Sept. 16, Food City in Marion on Oct. 1 and Food City in Bristol on Dec. 19.
