The Southwest Virginia Community College’s Southern Gap Transportation and Logistics Center will host a free Disaster Preparedness Workshop from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, July 23. The event, presented in partnership with United Way of Southwest Virginia and the United Recovery Force, will provide families with practical emergency preparedness training, and each household attending will receive a free disaster preparedness bucket.
Residents will have an opportunity to learn how to better prepare their families for emergencies later this month during a free disaster preparedness workshop at Southwest Virginia Community College’s Southern Gap Transportation and Logistics Center (SGTLC) on Southern Gap.
The event, hosted by Southwest Virginia Community College in partnership with United Way of Southwest Virginia and the United Recovery Force Disaster Division, is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on July 23 at SGTLC, located at 1102 Ovenbird Road in Grundy.
The free, hands-on training session is designed to help individuals and families prepare for emergencies by teaching practical disaster preparedness skills and safety measures. Organizers said participants will learn easy-to-follow steps they can use before, during and after natural disasters or other emergency situations.
In addition to the training, each family attending the workshop will receive one free disaster preparedness bucket filled with emergency preparedness supplies.
The workshop is part of an ongoing effort by Southwest Virginia Community College and the United Recovery Force to strengthen disaster readiness across Southwest Virginia by providing communities with the knowledge and basic resources needed to respond to emergencies.
Officials encourage residents of all ages to attend, noting that no previous emergency preparedness experience is necessary. The event is free and open to the public.
