Tatumn Damron, a first-year student at the Appalachian School of Law, has been named the inaugural recipient of the Steven R. Minor Memorial Scholarship. The annual scholarship recognizes excellence in legal research and writing and honors the legacy of respected attorney Steven R. Minor.
The Appalachian School of Law has announced that first-year student Tatumn Damron has been selected as the inaugural recipient of the Steven R. Minor Memorial Scholarship, an award established to recognize excellence in legal research and writing.
Damron, a native of Schererville, Indiana, earned her undergraduate degree from Truman State University before enrolling at ASL. During her first year of law school, she distinguished herself through outstanding performance in legal research and writing, earning the honor as the scholarship’s first recipient.
The scholarship was created in memory of Steven R. Minor, a respected attorney remembered for his professionalism, dedication to the legal profession and exceptional skill in legal research and writing. School officials said the scholarship will be awarded annually to a first-year student who best reflects those same qualities.
Damron said receiving the inaugural award is both an honor and a responsibility.
“I’m deeply honored to be the first recipient of the Steven R. Minor Scholarship,” she said. “It means so much to receive a scholarship that honors someone so respected for their dedication to legal research and writing. Knowing his colleagues and friends created this award to celebrate that legacy makes the recognition feel even more meaningful.”
She said the award reinforces the importance of developing the skills that serve as the foundation of a successful legal career.
“Legal research and writing is the foundation of effective advocacy, and dedicating myself to mastering it feels like the right way to honor someone who clearly valued precision and clarity in the law,” Damron said.
ASL officials congratulated Damron on the achievement, noting that the scholarship recognizes not only academic excellence but also the commitment and discipline needed to succeed in the legal profession.
The law school expressed confidence that Damron will continue to build on her accomplishments during her time at ASL and throughout her future legal career while carrying forward the legacy of Steven R. Minor.
