DIANA LEIGH DUTY, age 72, of Wolford, Virginia, passed away on July 5, 2026, in Lebanon, Virginia, surrounded by her family following a brief illness.
Beloved “Granny” to many, Diana will be remembered for her fun-loving spirit, playful mischief, and childlike wonder of the world around her. She loved her family, adored her pets, and never lost her sense of adventure. She found joy in life’s simple moments and had a remarkable way of making those around her smile. Whether sharing a laugh, creating cherished memories with those she loved, or simply enjoying the company of family and friends, Diana’s warmth and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Throughout her life, she made many places her home, including Hurley, Virginia, and Kissimmee, Florida. To know Diana was to know laughter, compassion, and a heart that always made room for family, friends, and every animal that crossed her path. Her greatest happiness came from the people and animals she loved, and the memories she created with them will be treasured always.
Diana is survived by her daughter, Belinda Justus; her grandson, Jimmy “Marcus” Justus, whom she loved as a son, and his life partner, Christopher Culbertson, of Lebanon, Virginia; her grandsons, Bradley Hurley and Matthew Ball; her granddaughter, Ashley Hurley, of Raven, Virginia; her brothers, Starlin Gibson and his wife, Janice, of Grundy, Virginia, and Frankie Gibson and his partner, Dreama Bevins, of Grundy, Virginia; her sister-in-law, Mary Duty, of Hurley, Virginia; and her extended family, Debra Stacy, Tracy Keen, and Jojo Key. and her beloved dogs, Flipper, Khaleesi, and Khloe, who brought her endless love and companionship.
She was preceded in death by her cherished husband, Jimmy Dean Duty; her daughter, Hope Leigh Prater; her son, Scotty Duty; and her cousin, Linda Salmons, whom she loved as a sister.
A celebration of Diana’s life will be held by the family at a later date, with the time and location to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to your local animal shelter in Diana’s memory, honoring her lifelong love of animals.
