Buchanan County residents will have an opportunity to help shape the county’s outdoor recreation future at a community open house Wednesday, Sept. 23.
The Gateways to Adventure Outdoor Recreation Master Plan open house will be held from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Southern Gap Outdoor Adventures, located at 1124 Chipping Sparrow Road in Grundy.
The informal event will give residents a chance to share their thoughts about the county’s existing outdoor recreation opportunities and offer ideas for future projects, improvements and activities.
Members of the public may meet the planning team, explore interactive maps and identify the outdoor places and activities they already enjoy. Participants also may discuss what they would like to see developed or improved across Buchanan County.
Organizers hope community feedback will help guide future outdoor recreation development and identify opportunities that could benefit residents, visitors and the local economy.
A community campfire will be part of the open house, and complimentary s’mores will be available.
Gateways to Adventure is a partnership involving Buchanan County, Friends of Southwest Virginia, the Cumberland Plateau Planning District Commission and SE Group.
The open house is free, and everyone is welcome.
