Southern Gap’s volleyball team added another first to the school’s growing list of milestones Tuesday night.

The Eagles swept Virginia High 25-18, 25-21, 25-22 to win the first Southwest District match in program history.

Senior Leah Rasnake led Southern Gap with 10 digs and eight kills as the Eagles controlled the match from beginning to end.

“Being a senior and getting to be part of our first-ever district win is something I’ll never forget,” Rasnake said. “I’m so proud of this team, how far we’ve come, and everything we’ve accomplished together.”

Southern Gap received contributions throughout its lineup. Bella Hurley distributed eight assists, and Adyson Bell added nine assists. Lucy Savage recorded seven kills, Madison Lester finished with four blocks and Addy Boyd contributed four kills.

Claire Griffey anchored the defense with 20 digs, while Kendall Brown served four aces.

Cecilia Hernandez led Virginia High with 29 digs. Kileeah Tucker recorded 13 digs and nine kills for the Bearcats.

The victory came in the first district match for Southern Gap, the consolidated Buchanan County school formed from Grundy, Hurley, Twin Valley and Council high schools.
