The Buchanan County Chamber of Commerce will kick off Southern Gap Elk Fest with its annual Wild Game Dinner and Live Auction on Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Southern Gap Visitor Center.
The community event will begin at 6:30 p.m. and feature a selection of wild game prepared by The Shack of Wise. In addition to elk, organizers hope to offer ostrich and kangaroo. A chicken option will also be available for guests who prefer a more traditional meal.
Tickets will go on sale Tuesday, Sept. 1. Admission is $50 per person or $500 for a reserved table with eight seats. Only a limited number of tickets will be available.
“The Wild Game Dinner is a great way for our community to come together and kick off Elk Fest, which has grown into one of Buchanan County’s largest events of the year,” Chamber Executive Director Chad Cooper said. “We want to invite everyone to come out, enjoy a unique meal and help us begin an exciting weekend at Southern Gap.”
Cooper encouraged those interested in attending to purchase their tickets as soon as possible.
“The dinner has sold out each of the past three years, so when tickets go on sale Sept. 1, people will need to act quickly,” Cooper said. “This is always a popular event, and we expect tickets to go fast again this year.”
The evening will include a live auction hosted by SWVA Sportsman, with a variety of items available for bidding.
“SWVA Sportsman is putting together a live auction with a lot of great items,” Cooper said. “The auction will add even more excitement to the evening and give everyone another reason to join us.”
Elk Fest celebrates Buchanan County’s growing elk population, outdoor heritage and tourism opportunities while drawing residents and visitors to Southern Gap.
