Third Thursday at the CAM welcomes Cody Kennedy and Phat Patty’s Food Truck

There’s something special about live music in your own hometown, and this month, The CAM is bringing a hometown musician to the stage for the fifth installment of our Summer Concert Series. Join us Thursday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. for another Third Thursday at The CAM, featuring live music from Grundy native Cody Kennedy and great food from the Phat Patty’s Food Truck.

Kennedy brings a powerful blend of Appalachian soul, dark country and mountain grit straight from the hills of Grundy, Virginia. With a raspy, commanding voice and a style rooted in raw storytelling, his music combines the spirit of traditional mountain music with the edge of modern outlaw country. The result is a sound that feels haunting, soulful and unmistakably Appalachian.

For Kennedy, music has been a fascination for as long as he can remember. He says that even as a child, he was intrigued by musical instruments, not only by the music they created, but by how the instruments themselves worked. That curiosity eventually grew into an appreciation for the many different sounds that make up American music. During his Third Thursday performance, guests can expect to hear a mixture of familiar covers and Kennedy’s own original music, giving the audience a chance to enjoy songs they know while also getting to know him as a songwriter and artist.

But perhaps what makes this performance most meaningful is where it is happening.

Kennedy says he is especially excited to perform at The CAM because of its community-powered spirit. As a Grundy native, the opportunity to take the stage in front of a hometown crowd makes this Third Thursday a special one for him and for us.

We love being able to use The CAM stage to showcase the talent that exists right here in our community. Our Summer Concert Series has been about more than music. It’s about creating a place where people can gather, visit with friends, enjoy good food, discover talented musicians and simply spend an evening together.

And, of course, you can’t have a great Third Thursday without something good to eat.

Joining us for the evening will be Phat Patty’s Food Truck, the mobile extension of Phat Patty’s Bar & Grill in Lebanon, Virginia. Phat Patty’s is known for hearty American favorites, with offerings that include burgers, chicken, loaded fries and plenty of creative takes on classic comfort food. Come hungry and grab dinner from the food truck before settling in for the music.

September’s event marks the fifth concert in The CAM’s Summer Concert Series, and we would love to see another great crowd come out to support live music and the people who make our region such a special place to call home. So, text your friends, round up the family and make plans for a Thursday night at The CAM. Grab something delicious from Phat Patty’s Food Truck, find a seat, catch up with your neighbors and enjoy an evening of live Appalachian music with one of our own.

Come hungry, bring your friends and spend your Thursday night with us. We will see you at The CAM.
