Miss Stella Ann McClanahan of Grundy has been accepted by Ferrum College for the 1976 fall semester, according to Ferrum’s Director of Admissions Bill Bowen. Ferrum College is a coeducational United Methodist-related institution.
Regina Tickle recently completed the two-year Radiology Technology program at Clinch Valley Clinic Hospital in Richlands. Regina is a 1974 graduate of Garden High School. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Tickle of Keen Mountain.

Coach Larry Bradley’s Grundy High School Golden Wave kicks off the football season at Lebanon Friday night. And if the preseason games are any indication, it should be a dandy. The probable starters for the Wave will be Marty Stapleton and Greg Deel at the end positions; Mark Cook and Paul Elswick at tackle; Russell Owens and Sam Owens or Andrew Ward at guard; and Todd Farris at center. Junior Bill Wooldridge will get the call at quarterback.
Coach Bill Cecil’s Golden Wave girls basketballers started the season right for Grundy High this week. They opened on Monday night with a convincing 57-46 win over the girls from Garden and then took their first win in the Southwest District, defeating Tazewell 45-34 on Tuesday.
A pair of seniors, Kelly Vandyke and Tracy Fletcher, led the way in the victory over Garden.

Brenda Stiltner, who has served as a deputy treasurer in the Buchanan County treasurer’s office for the past 23 years, was appointed treasurer of Buchanan County Friday to replace retiring treasurer Sue Yates. Circuit Court Judge Nick Persin appointed Stiltner. Debbie Bostic was appointed as deputy treasurer.
Town of Grundy Mayor Miller Richardson presented a gold plate to Joyce Matney, honoring her for her dedicated service as secretary of the town’s sewage commission. Matney served as the commission’s secretary for 20 years and resigned earlier this year.
At a prior ceremony, Matney received gifts and applause for her work from fellow workers and commission members.

Ed Talbott II signs the official documents that make him the first recipient of the Ryan McGlothlin Memorial Scholarship Fund. The fund was set up in honor of McGlothlin, who died last year in Iraq. The scholarship fund provides no-interest loans to military veterans accepted to attend the Appalachian College of Pharmacy program.
Members of the 2006 Lady Wave volleyball team are Chasity Matney, Kassie Bell, Courtney McClanahan, Amy Crouse, Julia Smith, Karen Cantrell, Kayla Viers, Kasey Bowman, Sara Looney, Brittany Lester, Jenna Stiltner, Hailey Stiltner, and Tiffany Bell. Russell Street steps in as the new head volleyball coach at Grundy High School this season.
