Twin Valley Elementary/Middle School will continue offering its after-school program with the help of an $80,000 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant.
The Buchanan County School Board unanimously approved the continuation grant during its Aug. 18 meeting.

The federal program supports community learning centers that provide academic enrichment during hours when school is not in session. The programs can offer students additional educational assistance and other activities in a safe, supervised setting after the regular school day ends.
In another action involving Twin Valley Elementary/Middle, the board approved Zach Wimmer as the school’s new head custodian. Wimmer replaces Trula Perrigan, who retired from the position.
Board members also voted to increase the school division’s employee mileage reimbursement rate from 72.5 cents to 76 cents per mile.
The board ratified votes involving additional education funding, an addition to the Virginia High School League handbook and the nutrition credit purchase agreement. Approval of the nutrition agreement remains subject to legal review.
