School hallways across Buchanan County will soon be busy again, but students and families will have several opportunities to stop by before classes officially begin.
Buchanan County Public Schools has scheduled meet-and-greet events and back-to-school bashes to help students become familiar with their schools, meet teachers and reconnect with classmates before the 2026-27 school year begins Friday, Aug. 21.
All of the county’s elementary schools will hold meet-and-greet events Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. The schedule includes Council Elementary/Middle School, Tommy P. Justus Elementary/Middle School (former Hurley Elementary/Middle School), Riverview Elementary/Middle School and Twin Valley Elementary/Middle School.
Southern Gap High School will hold its meet-and-greet Wednesday, Aug. 19, from 3 to 7 p.m. The event will offer students from across Buchanan County an opportunity to explore the new school and meet teachers and staff before the start of Southern Gap’s first academic year.
In addition to the meet-and-greets, several schools are holding back-to-school bashes to give families another opportunity to come together before classes begin.
Council Elementary/Middle School will hold its back-to-school bash Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the school.
Tommy P. Justus Elementary/Middle School will also hold its bash Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the school.
Southern Gap High School will conclude the series of back-to-school celebrations Thursday, Aug. 20, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the school.
Two of the county’s back-to-school bashes have already taken place. Riverview Elementary/Middle School held its event July 30 at the school, while Twin Valley Elementary/Middle School held its celebration Aug. 1 at the Whitewood Fire Department.
