Laura Evans Barden passed away Thursday, July 9, at her home in Richlands, Virginia. She was 69.
Born October 3, 1956, at Grundy Hospital, she was the youngest daughter of Gomer and China Evans, who precede her in death. She is survived by her son, Joshua Evans, who was with her at death and who sacrificially and lovingly took care of his mother through the months of her battle with cancer.
Laura had four dogs and a cat that provided her with many entertaining stories, which she shared with her Facebook friends. She also posted stories of the amazing wildlife and birds that she provided for in her green belt zone.
For years, Laura was employed by Mark Shortridge at Cardinal Industries/Cardinal Active wear. Laura was gifted in technology and enjoyed the work she did there. She was a graduate of Grundy Senior High School and Southwest Virginia Community College.
Laura is survived by her sisters, Linda (Rick) Ramey of Augusta, WV, and Sylvia Evans, Bristol, VA; nephews Tony Ramey and Shea Ramey, both of Augusta; four great nieces and a great nephew; and a faithful friend, Jerry Elkins of Oakwood, VA, who provided much needed encouragement and care for both Laura and Joshua. Husband Roger Barden and nephew Michael Ramey preceded her in death.
The family wishes to express their thanks and praise for Caris health system and for those who helped Laura with such exceptional skill and warmth, going beyond routine care: the hospice nurse Sally, the caregiver Becky, and the social worker Tara. We are so grateful for the way they served her.
In accordance with her wishes, Laura was cremated and her ashes strewn in a beloved place.
