Prater Fire & Rescue is inviting residents from across Buchanan County to kick off the Independence Day holiday with its annual fireworks celebration on July 2 at Southern Gap.
The free, family-friendly event will be held at Prater Fire & Rescue Station 1, located at 1028 Killdeer Lane in Grundy. Food vendors will be set up at 4 p.m., and the event will feature a fireworks display scheduled to begin after dark. Organizers are asking spectators to be in place by 9:30 p.m.
Several food vendors will be on site throughout the evening, including Pig-N-Out, Chiller-Z Ice Cream, Donuts & More and Haysi Supply Kettle Corn.
Prater Fire & Rescue encourages families to arrive early, bring lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy an evening of food, fellowship and patriotic celebration before the fireworks begin.
Organizers said the event is free and open to the public and encourage attendees to follow directions from firefighters and event staff when entering and leaving the venue to help ensure a safe experience for everyone.
Fireworks will be launched in the area surrounding Prater Fire & Rescue Station 1 at Southern Gap.
