The Town of Grundy and the Grundy Volunteer Fire Department are inviting Buchanan County residents to celebrate Independence Day with an evening of family-friendly activities, live music and fireworks on Friday, July 3, in Downtown Grundy.
The annual celebration will begin with the Big Wheel Bash, hosted by the Grundy Fire Department from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in front of the Grundy Community Center.
The free event will allow children and families to get up close with a variety of emergency and heavy-duty vehicles. Attendees will be able to explore fire trucks, police vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, coal trucks and other large equipment while learning how they operate and speaking with local first responders who use them every day.
Organizers describe the event as a hands-on experience that allows children to see, touch and ask questions about the vehicles that play important roles throughout the community.
Following the Big Wheel Bash, the Town of Grundy will host its annual Independence Day celebration at the Grundy Town Center.
Live music will begin at 7 p.m. and continue until 9 p.m. with a performance by Blue Reign. The concert is free and open to the public.
The evening will conclude with the community’s annual fireworks display at dark.
Town officials encourage residents to bring family and friends to enjoy the festivities and support local businesses during the holiday celebration.
This year’s celebration carries added significance as communities across the country mark the upcoming 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. The event also coincides with Buchanan County’s sesquicentennial celebration, marking 150 years since the county’s establishment in 1875, after it split from Tazewell County. Both events are free to attend. Organizers encourage visitors to arrive early and plan for increased traffic in the downtown area as crowds gather for the celebration.
