Competitors from across the region squared off in a full day of ATV and UTV racing June 20 during the Southern Gap Dirt Drags, where Shane Fletcher highlighted the event by setting a new 300-foot track record.
Fletcher posted a winning run of 4.433 seconds to establish the new mark while also capturing the Outlaw Open money class championship.
The event featured competition in youth, ATV and UTV divisions, with racers battling for trophies and cash prizes.
Hunter Bowman claimed two first-place finishes, winning both the Ages 9-12 division and the MX 65cc-100cc class. Clay Stalker added a victory in the MX 101cc-200cc division after finishing third in the Ages 9-12 class.
Kobe Blankenship earned victories in the ATV Modified Open and MX 201cc-250cc classes, while Kaden Watkins swept the premier motocross divisions by winning both MX 251cc & Up and MX Open.
Nick Lester enjoyed one of the strongest days among ATV competitors, winning the ATV 501cc & Up and ATV Open divisions while placing third in the ATV 401cc-500cc class.
In UTV competition, Dean Ward claimed victories in both the UTV Turbo Open Trophy and UTV Turbo Stock money classes. Danny Boyd topped the UTV Turbo Open Modified money division and also won the UTV 801cc & Up Non-Turbo money class.
Noah Hubbard captured the ET Bracket Open money division and added a second-place finish in MX Open and a victory in the ET Bracket Open Trophy class.
All racers must have a number plate on their machine, and dirt bike front rims must be covered. Racers must sign a waiver before practicing, and racers under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign a waiver before practicing or racing.
The 2026 Southern Gap Dirt Drags schedule continues with races set for July 4, July 18, Aug. 1, Aug. 15, Aug. 29, Sept. 12, Sept. 26, Oct. 10 and Oct. 24. The Oct. 24 race is scheduled as the season finale. Organizers noted that the schedule is subject to change due to weather or unforeseen circumstances.
