Buchanan County Public Schools has scheduled an in-service training session for new substitute teachers, instructional aides, cafeteria staff, custodial staff, coaching staff and volunteers.
The in-service will be held July 29, 2026, at 8:30 a.m. at the Buchanan County School Board Office. Attendance is required for those who are new to these positions.
Participants must bring several items to the training, including two forms of identification, such as a driver’s license and Social Security card, along with direct deposit information and a voided check. Those who have a college degree also should bring an official transcript.
Several fees are required for the in-service and must be paid in cash the day of the training. Those fees include $27 for a Live Scan fingerprint service, $17.05 for TB screening, $96 for a lab service drug screen and $12.30 for a Central Registry background search. The total amount due to BCPS is $135.30, and exact cash and change are required.
The Live Scan fingerprinting must be completed at the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office, while the TB screening can be performed at the Buchanan County Health Department.
BCPS said the next in-service training for new substitutes will be held in January 2027.
The substitute pay scale includes $172 per day for teachers with bachelor’s or master’s degrees and a valid Collegiate Professional license who work as long-term substitutes, $107.25 per day for bachelor’s or master’s degree substitutes working periodically, $98.25 per day for those with associate degrees or the equivalent and $95.78 per day for high school graduates or those with equivalent credentials. Cafeteria or custodial substitutes are paid $12.77 per hour.
All substitute teachers will be paid on the high school pay scale until an official transcript is sent to Becky Harrison at the Buchanan County School Board Office.
