Two Buchanan County volunteer fire departments are inviting residents to celebrate Independence Day with family-friendly events featuring fireworks, entertainment and activities for children.
The first event will be hosted by the Knox Creek Volunteer Fire Department on Friday, June 27, at the Tommy P. Justus Elementary/Middle School track with festivities beginning at 5 p.m. The department announced the fireworks show will begin at dark.
The celebration continues the following week when the Prater Volunteer Fire Department hosts its annual Independence Day event on Wednesday, July 2.
In addition to a fireworks display, Prater Fire & Rescue will offer inflatable attractions for children and families from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Organizers said the inflatables will provide entertainment for youngsters leading up to the evening fireworks show.
Both events are part of a series of community celebrations taking place across Buchanan County ahead of the Fourth of July holiday. The festivities also coincide with the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration and Buchanan County’s 150th anniversary observance.
