Getting out into the community can give nursing home residents something to look forward to and memories to carry home. For Heritage Hall, a scrapbook preserving those experiences also brought statewide recognition.
Big Sandy Soil and Water Conservation District Director Bobby Looney recognized Heritage Hall during the Buchanan County Board of Supervisors’ Oct. 5 meeting at the Government Center on Slate Creek, praising employees for helping residents stay connected to the community.
Heritage Hall representatives Karen Lee and Crystal Kelly received certificates during the recognition.
Looney said Heritage Hall earned a first-place state award for a scrapbook documenting residents’ outings. During the trips, residents had opportunities to explore the community, learn about conservation projects and visit local attractions.
Photos taken along the way were collected in the scrapbook, preserving memories of the places residents visited and the experiences they shared.
Looney said the outings offered residents something beyond their daily routines while creating lasting memories.
He also thanked Heritage Hall employee Lee Dotson, who is also the North Grundy supervisor, for driving residents on the trips and helping them see conservation work throughout the area.
Supervisors joined in commending the employees for their efforts.
Knox Supervisor Trey Adkins said his fiancée, a nurse practitioner who visits nursing homes, had spoken highly of Heritage Hall. He also praised the staff for taking residents to community activities, including football games.
Looney spoke about his own experience recovering from a stroke and the importance of having activities to keep the mind occupied. He said opportunities to get out and remain involved can make a difference for residents.
The recognition highlighted both Heritage Hall’s statewide achievement and the work of employees who help residents continue enjoying the community around them.
