HAYSI, Va. — Virginia State Police arrested Haysi Mayor Larry D. Yates on Thursday following his indictment on eight charges by a Dickenson County grand jury.
Yates, 72, of Haysi, was taken into custody Sept. 17 by special agents with the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Wytheville Field Office.
The grand jury returned indictments Monday charging Yates with six felony offenses, including embezzlement, use of public assets for personal benefit, two counts of credit card theft, credit card fraud and receiving goods obtained through credit card fraud.
Yates was also indicted on two misdemeanor charges of credit card fraud and receiving goods obtained through credit card fraud.
The charges contained in an indictment are allegations, and Yates is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
Yates was being held at the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority facility in Abingdon following his arrest.
He is scheduled to appear Tuesday, Sept. 22, in Dickenson County Circuit Court.
