A new tradition begins at The CAM
Last Friday, September 4, The CAM hosted its first-ever Karaoke Night on The Courtyard, and if the response was any indication, it certainly won’t be the last.
Close to 50 people filtered through The Courtyard during the evening, some stepping up to the microphone and others perfectly content to grab some food, find a seat and cheer on the singers. Dave’s Dawgs food trailer was onsite serving dinner, and the beautiful late-summer evening provided the perfect setting for a casual night of music and fun.
What made the evening especially exciting was the mix of people who attended.
Along with familiar faces and CAM regulars, Karaoke Night brought new patrons through our doors, including visitors from both West Virginia and Kentucky. One of our goals at The CAM is to continue finding new ways to introduce people to our facility and give them reasons to come back, and events like this are proving that there are plenty of ways to do just that.
Perhaps the best part of the evening, however, was seeing just how universal karaoke can be.
Our singers ranged in age from just 8 years old all the way to 80!
There were young performers who had no hesitation about taking the microphone and older singers who knew exactly which song they wanted when it was their turn. Different generations sang different songs, but everyone shared the same stage and the same enthusiasm. And really, that is exactly what we want at The CAM.
While theatre will always be at the heart of the Theatre Guild of Buchanan County, our vision for The CAM continues to grow beyond traditional productions. Concerts, art classes, children’s programs, special events and now Karaoke Night are giving people more opportunities to gather, participate and enjoy the arts in ways that feel accessible to everyone.
Not everyone wants to audition for a play. Not everyone considers themselves an artist. But plenty of people are willing to pick up a microphone and sing their favorite song or at least have a great time watching someone else do it!
After such a positive response to our first event, Karaoke Night will now become a regular part of The CAM calendar, with plans to host it at least once each month. And, we’re not stopping with ordinary karaoke nights. Be on the lookout for themed evenings, special karaoke events and a few other ideas that may give you an excuse to choose your song, gather your friends and take your turn behind the microphone.
If you missed the first one, don’t worry. There will be another chance very soon. Whether you’re 8 or 80, a seasoned performer or someone whose usual stage is the shower, there’s a microphone waiting for you at The CAM.
